The Grass Roots Garbage Gang organizes a beach clean up for the 28 miles of beach on the Long Beach Peninsula. Hundreds of locals & visitors come out to clean the beach. Anyone interested in helping out is welcome to join any of the three events. Free chowder included!

60th Annual Loyalty Day Celebration
Long Beach boasts the longest consecutively running Loyalty Day celebration in the nation. Events are scheduled over two-day period, including Children’s Parade, annual Blessing of the Fleet, Fire Truck rides, and Loyalty Day Parade. 2010 salutes the Coast Guard, established by Grand Marshall President George Washington in 1790.

The Loyalty Day Children’s Parade is held annually the first Saturday in May. The parade begins at noon; line-up/registration begins around 11:00 AM. All children are welcome to participate. Adults can cheer them on as well as enjoy the first Saturday Market of the season.

Relay for Life is a fun over-night event which raises money for the fight against cancer. Teams of 8-15 gather with camping gear to participate in the fund raising run/walk. The annual fireworks show takes place in front of the Long Beach boardwalk and beach over the ocean. With thousands of vacationers enjoying personal fireworks along 28-miles of public beach, the displays go on for hours before and after the official show, creating an evening of lights sparkling off the water.

Slow Drag at the Port
Hot Rods line up on Howerton Way at the port of Ilwaco to compete in a coasting competition. Cars have approximately 15 feet in which to accelerate and then coast for 200 yards. To win, a car must cross the finish line and stop closest to the line. Trophies and assorted gift certificates awarded.

This annual classic car show features thousands of automobiles, from Model As to the muscle cars of the 60s and 70s. The main events are held at Wilson Field in Ocean Park, but the cars will be seen all over the peninsula. No alcohol or pets at event.

Windless Kite Festival (Indoor Kite Fly)
This indoor kite flying extravaganza features the northwest’s finest performers of choreographed kite flying to music indoors. Some perform solos; others work in pairs while still others create group performance. A special competition called “Hot Tricks Shoot Out” matches 2 flyers in almost acrobatic flying tricks.
